Introduction to the Skills Migration Program
In its 2011-2012 Budget the Australian Government announced significant increases in the skilled migration programs for both permanent and temporary workers.
EE-Oz has been working with the COAG Skills Taskforce, Trades Recognition Australia and industry and training provider partners to ensure these programs deliver suitably qualified and experienced workers to Australian industry. The ISC wishes to maintain industry confidence in the quality of skills assessment and gap training programs, which will support these workers becoming safe, fully productive tradespeople for Australian industry.
These skills migration programs have pathways and processes which impact on the industries under EE-Oz’s coverage. The rate of enquiry from industry stakeholders on these matters has stimulated EE-Oz to convene a national summit with the key objectives of:
-
Enhancing stakeholder interaction and communication
-
Developing understandings of the skilled migration processes
-
Underpinning industry confidence in training, assessment and regulatory frameworks
To address the inherent issues, a Skills Migration Summit will be facilitated by EE-Oz Training Standards on the 5th of July 2011.
It is imperative that the Australian ElectroComms and Energy Utilities industries demonstrate initiative and address the existing and emerging issues in a timely manner. The Skills Migration Summit will allow for key Industry, Government and Training personnel to engage in discussion and develop strategies to ensure a positive effect on Skills Migration.
